The United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection and hiring of Michael Brazier as president and CEO. Michael comes from a nonprofit background, having spent the past ten years leading various development efforts for top national health organizations. He joins a dynamic and dedicated board, staff and community of volunteers, and will focus on fulfilling the organization's mission to link the community's will and resources to improve lives.
Most recently, Michael served as the nationwide program strategy lead for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital walk/run program growing the program's revenue, introducing a volunteer-driven model and increasing corporate engagement. Michael started his career in the nonprofit space in various roles at the American Cancer Society, gaining valuable knowledge in nonprofit development, corporate involvement, volunteer development and community engagement.
Michael received a B.S. in business administration with a concentration in finance at the University of South Carolina, Aiken. He also holds certifications in executive management and is a Six Sigma Green Belt.
As the leader of UWNNS, Michael's primary responsibility will be to deliver on our organization's business plan and initiative of improving grade-level reading in northern Nevada. Specifically, we aim to achieve a goal of three out of four third-graders reading proficiently by the year 2020.
