Allocating Funds
United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) raises funds through a number of different channels in our community. The money we raise stays right here to help people in northern Nevada and the Sierra in the focus areas of Education, Financial Stability and Health. We have committees of community experts that review all requests for funding that impact the three areas (Education, Financial Stability and Health).
We've improved the way we fund community impact initiatives and our exciting approach is a more results-driven and meaningful. We are asking organizations and coalitions of organizations to apply for more substantial funding through our new Request for Proposal (RFP) process. It is critical that these requests include a clear way to measure the impact of the efforts funded by our donors. We believe this focus on results and this call for community partnerships will truly result in measurable, lasting change for our community.
As always, we are committed to ensuring that our investors’ contributions are allocated to high-quality, credible organizations. In the past, our Partner agency/nonprofits have gone through a rigorous self-assessment and approval process which measures their business practices against UWNNS’s “Standards of Excellence.” We believe that the lead applicant for all proposals should still have gone through and passed the Standards of Excellence process. After all, we are still responsible to our investors, donors and all stakeholders who look to us to ensure that funds we allocate via the RFP process will be done with stellar stewardship on our part.
