Financial Stability Partnership
United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) has always provided families with resources to meet their 'basic needs'-- food, shelter and clothing. However, helping individuals and families get back on their feet entails so much more. That's why UWNNS convened a community group in 2008, which began the Financial Stability Partnership of Northern Nevada (FSP). The FSP has, since that time, helped many northern Nevadans receive the Earned Income Tax Credit through volunteer tax preparation sites (VITA sites) all around our region. In the most recent tax period, VITA volunteers filed over 2,550 tax returns for people and brought over $3.4 million back to people in our area. The FSP has created both adult and youth financial education programs, as well as innovative ways to help people get back on their feet.
- Funding for the VITA volunteer tax preparation efforts will enable volunteers to help even more northern Nevadans receive tax credits for which they qualify. Funding will specifically help with site equipment, technology, tools and supplies.
- Sponsorship funding for FSP outreach events will enable providers who work with clients to learn how they can provide financial education as part of their ongoing work. Outreach events have been held in 2011 and more are planned for 2012. Funding can help with event costs, including supplies, materials and venue costs.
