Funding Priorities

Thank you for your interest in United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra.

This is what you can make happen with a grant of $1,000 to $10,000.

United Way's Born Learning program focuses on providing outreach and training to parents, grandparents, other caregivers and childcare providers.   The Born Learning training elements focus on 'turning everyday moments into learning opportunities.'  The program is based on over 40 years of proven research that proves that parents and other caregivers are the 'first teachers' and the most important link to getting kids ready to start school.  Locally, the program has trained hundreds of childcare providers over the past 6 years and the Born Learning curriculum has been accepted into the state of Nevada's child care licensing continuing education curriculum.

  • Funding for Born Learning will pay for 'Born Learning Trails' - an unexpensive, high-visibility and fun trail that can be installed either indoors or outdoors.  The Born Learning Trail reinforces the basic elements, captures the imagination, all in a fun setting.

Please call Kelsey Piechocki, Senior Vice President, at 775-333-8287 to talk with her about how you can support United Way's education efforts with a grant.  To make a grant from your Community Foundation Donor Advised Fund, please call Tracy Turner at 775-333-5499 or visit www.nevadafund.org.
