SUMMER KICKOFF: ADVENTURE AWAITS!

United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS), along with the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, is hosting Summer Kickoff: Adventure Awaits! on June 17 at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows.

Summer Kickoff: Adventure Awaits! is designed to encourage families to unplug and explore this summer—whether that’s through books, nature, imaginative play, sports, or shared family activities. It’s also an opportunity for families to be inspired by local athletes and community organizations who value community, adventure, and learning. 

Families are invited to an evening of sports, story-telling, imagination stations, giveaways, popcorn, sweet treats, and meet-and-greets with athletes and mascots from Northern Nevada’s favorite teams. Families are also invited to join in on the fun by wearing their favorite team's colors!

The first 200 families in attendance will receive a ‘Lit Kit’ – an early learning and literacy kit tailored to support young children with school success in reading, math, and beyond. The literacy kits are funded through the Early Childhood Innovative Literacy Program (ECILP 2) ‘24-’25 grant. The grant was awarded by the Nevada Department of Education, Nevada State Legislature, and Governor Joe Lombardo.

Additional partners that have made this event possible include Reno Aces, Nevada Storm Women’s Tackle Football, Reno Ice, Sierra Regional Roller Derby, Nevada Wolf Pack Women’s Basketball, Paws 4 Love, DJMice, Trader Joe’s, Lucky Beaver, and Squeeze In.
