Education is not a straight path—it's a lifelong journey. Every person starts from a different place, faces unique challenges, and reaches important milestones at different times. Whether it's learning to read, preparing for a career, or returning to the classroom as an adult, growth happens in many ways and at every stage of life.
United Journeys is United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra's comprehensive education and workforce initiative designed to meet people where they are. We recognize that an individual's educational journey is circular, not linear. People can enter the circle at any point, and as their needs change, they can access different programs that provide the support, skills, and opportunities they need to continue moving forward.
United Journeys is built around three interconnected programs:
UNITED READERS
Building strong foundations through early literacy.
United Readers helps bridge early literacy gaps by providing evidence-based reading support to young learners. By strengthening foundational reading skills, children gain the confidence and ability they need to succeed in school and beyond.
UNITED PATHWAYS
Supporting youth through mental health, career readiness, and workforce development.
United Pathways empowers young people by addressing the connection between mental well-being and future success. Through mental health support, workforce development, career exploration, and skills training, participants are equipped with the tools they need to build meaningful careers and thriving futures.
UNITED LEARNERS
Expanding opportunities through adult education.
United Learners helps adults continue their educational journey by providing access to learning opportunities that build skills, increase employability, and open doors to economic mobility. Whether earning new credentials, gaining workplace skills, or pursuing lifelong learning, participants receive the support they need to achieve their goals.
