United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra to Host AmeriCorps Service Send-off
Reno, NV — United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) will host an AmeriCorps Service Send-off on Friday, May 9 at 11:30 am at 639 Isbell Rd. Ste 420, Reno, NV 89509. This event marks the conclusion of the 2024-2025 school year for the United Readers Program – the most successful literacy comprehension initiative in the state.
At the Service Send-off, mentors will gather data highlighting the significant progress achieved throughout the school year, demonstrating the critical need for the United Readers program statewide. Senator Jackie Rosen’s office will honor members with certificates showing their exceptional service during the '24-'25 academic year. Mentors and staff will be available for interviews during the event.
"This event is a moment to honor the commitment our mentors have shown in supporting our schools," said Krystal Nevada, Senior Director of United Readers. "Their dedication has been instrumental in narrowing literacy gaps across Northern Nevada."
The AmeriCorps Service Send-off marks an early conclusion to this year's United Readers program, prompted by the recent $400 million cut in AmeriCorps funding.
"While these funding cuts present challenges, our mission to provide essential literacy interventions for Nevada's children hasn’t changed," added Krystal. "With the support of our community, we remain optimistic about continuing this program for years to come.”
UWNNS is asking community members to partner with us as we continue bridging literacy gaps across the state. The organization remains deeply committed to the United Readers program as a vital component of our mission to Live United for education in Nevada.
