UWNNS Summer Volunteer Opportunity:

Volunteer Reading at Summer Meal Sites!

United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) is partnering with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada to enrich free summer meal sites with story times and free books. The goal is to encourage children to read and learn this summer to promote knowledge gains rather than knowledge loss known as the summer slide.

Free summer meals are offered to children and youth ages 1 to 18 years and meals are required to be eaten on site. UWNNS will be piloting this partnership at 2 Reno summer meal sites: Yori Park (2800 Yori Way) and Community Gardens Apartments (2330 Wedekind Rd). Volunteers will be provided with books to read and encourage a story time while children eat. Participating in UWNNS reading activities is NOT a requirement to receive free meals, so we need volunteers who are able to adapt, work well with children and create a positive experience during a story time or activity.  Volunteers will give out a free book to every child to call their own and take home.

Only a 35 minute commitment!
