Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement:
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are core values at United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra and are instrumental in accomplishing our mission to unite communities to improve lives. We respect the dignity, uniqueness, and intrinsic worth of every individual, and we engage them in finding sustainable solutions to social issues in northern Nevada. We believe that diversity takes on many different forms. We value the voices in our community and know that by creating space to honor and celebrate the diversity of our communities, we can create more equitable, inclusive, and accessible opportunities for everyone.
United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra denounces all forms of racism because we believe in the inherent dignity and worth of all individuals. We strive to be an actively anti-racist organization, and we affirm the need to be intentional and deliberate in addressing inequities caused by systemic racism and other systems of oppression in our community. At its core, systemic racism is used to construct and maintain unbalanced power structures that advance the interests of a select race/ethnicity over others in the past and in the present. The consequences of systemic racism and other systems of oppression have devastating impacts on our entire community, especially our racially marginalized neighbors.
To counter these destructive consequences, we must identify and confront systemic racism and other systems of oppression in all forms in the work that we do. We understand that sustainable solutions for our community issues are only possible when we strive to be intentionally anti-racist and equity-centered throughout our work. This involves engaging our partners and community, especially racially marginalized community members, to leverage our resources to dismantle systemic racism and other systems of oppression. The consequences of this work will be equitable opportunities for all of us and provide for a better community where all can thrive. We are committed to doing this hard work with our community.
